AI Foundation Model for Brain Health

Dr. Chey serves as a co-investigator on 'Brain Health in My Hand (내 손 안의 뇌 건강): Healthy Aging Services through a Foundation Model of Brain Age and Cognitive Reserve and a Digital Therapeutics Platform', a flagship task funded under Korea's ARPA-H program ABC-H (AI Foundation Model-Driven Personalized Service Enhancing Brain Cognitive Reserve for Cognitive Resilience in a Hyper-Aged Society). Funded by the Ministry of Health and Welfare running through 2029, the project addresses the rising burden of dementia and age-related cognitive decline by integrating an AI foundation model with a smartphone-based digital therapeutics platform for early detection and personalized intervention.

Within this initiative, the Clinical Neuroscience Lab leads the cognitive reserve component. The lab harmonizes the diverse neuropsychological assessments collected across multiple Korean cohorts into a single standardized framework, develops a quantitative model of cognitive reserve, and identifies the key factors that contribute to it. By grounding the AI foundation model in these multidimensional, multimodal indicators of Korean older adults, the project aims to support not only individual-level risk prediction but also early intervention, personalized management, and digital therapeutics—ultimately contributing to a precision brain-health framework for healthy aging.
